Abstract

This essay analyzes the dilemma of mobility in anthropological and social studies. Understanding culture as a “process” or rather as a “product” reflects the idea of the “mobility turn” suggested by J. Urry. The authors agree that adapting static methods to dynamic subjects is a non-starter. However, while some may think it takes a paradigmatical change to study dynamical subjects, it can be done with basic epistemic rules and instruments enriched with a mobile approach and enormous digital data. The authors consider possible collaboration with other disciplines to use their experience in mobile studies. This brings us to the experimental part of cultural anthropology. Acknowledging the importance of mobile methods, the authors distinguish between technical aspects and gnoseology. The dynamic nature of the subject requires the researcher to trace its substantial changes. It is thus essential for mobile research to synchronize all the multiple processes to be successful.
