The monograph examines the ethno-confessional situation in three Finno-Ugric republics of the Russian Federation: Mari El, Mordovia, and Udmurtia. The analysis covers statistical data, the legislative base of national policy, the activities of state authorities in the regions, the management of the ethnonational sphere, and the work of national cultural organizations in the post-Soviet period with an emphasis on modernity. The authors present the results of sociological studies on the interethnic and inter-confessional relations in the regions. This high-quality study is based on the analytical reports with recommendations to state authorities and local governments on preventing and resolving interethnic tensions and conflicts, asserting Russian national identity and social harmony.
