Abstract

The article provides an anthropological analysis of the population that produced the late medieval necropolis of West Batal'noye (Leninsky district, Republic of Crimea). This sample is of great interest for the study of the ethnogenesis of the Crimean Tatars. The work outlines the craniological characteristics and morphological features of the Crimean Tatars of XV–XVIII centuries. These are brachycrania; a low, medium-wide face; a relatively narrow nose and flatness in the horizontal profile. A comparative analysis revealed morphological proximity of this population to the rural medieval population of the northern foothills and the central part of Crimea
