Abstract

This is an overview of the most significant results of scientific research on the history of Orthodox missionary work in the Middle Volga region in the first half of the 19th century. The monograph contains original information on state religious policy, missionary activities of the Russian Orthodox Church, implementation of missionary and educational projects among New Baptismal peoples, and specifics of ethno-confessional transformations. The research is based on a variety of sources, including, to a large extent, the author's archival materials. The book will be useful and informative for specialists in ethnography and history, as well as a wider range of readers.
