Abstract

The Far North is a multicultural region, where peoples of different nationalities live, including mordva. On September 22 – October 4, 2013, an ethnographic expedition was conducted along the route: Kayerkan, Dudinka, Norilsk, Dixon (Nikonov L.I. – hands, Okhotina T. N., Fadeeva M.M. – chl. экспед.). Material of the history of development of the region was collected, informants were interviewed according to the plan-prospectus of ethnographic research, photographs were taken (informants, documents, statistics). Mordovian settlers managed to preserve aspects of traditional culture, which is significantly influenced by the connection with the Republic of Mordovia. Traditions manifest themselves in national dishes, rites. There have been innovations. The climate of the north influenced social behavior, formation of ethnic specificity, when cultural and economic peculiarities (crafts and occupations), material culture (housing, clothing, food, folk knowledge) were subject to physical-geographical and environmental conditions, modifying traditions, which can be attributed to adaptation and survival of mordva in the Arctic.
