Abstract

The research investigated how three anthropometric indexes influence on
indicators of hardiness (commitment, control, challenge) and self-esteem scales
(health, prosperity, self-confidence, attitude of relatives, attitude of friends,
intelligence, appearance, character) in the group of 50 elderly women from
Belgorod. The age of participants ranged from 50 to 74 years, the average age is 58.
All participants related to the middle society class and 25 women of investigation
doing sport. In the research, considered three wide spread anthropometric
indexes – body mass index, waist-hip ratio, waist-height ratio. At high values
of waist-height ratio, the component of hardiness «challenge» reaches minimum
development among women and inhibits the process of development and gaining
experience. Body mass index that exceed the normal range significantly reduces
the self-esteem of appearance and prosperity of participants. High indicators of
waist-height ratio as the body mass index reduce the self-esteem of prosperous and health. Such correlations indicate that women in this age worried about their
physical form and half of participants take measures to improve their physical and
physiological indicators. The results of research confirm the significant influence
of morphological status on psychological characteristics.
