Abstract
In 2016-2018, the authors of the present article carried out an interdisciplinary
historical and anthropological study of the ethnic group of the «Italians of
Crimea», who are the descendants of Italian migrants of the 19th-20th centuries
to the Black Sea and Sea of Azov Regions.
As part of their work fields, the researchers made the anthropological
portrait photography of the member of the group and created their “average”
photographs, otherwise called “composite portraits”. As well, they experimented
the anthropological ultraviolet and infrared portrait photography of the “Italians
of Crimea” and the creation of ultraviolet and infrared composite portraits of the
representatives of this ethnic group.
The methodology for making ultraviolet and infrared anthropological
portrait photography was developed by the authors of the article in the laboratories
of the Centers of Visual and Physical Anthropology of the Institute of ethnology
and anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Later, it was tested
and used for the first time during the research programs accomplished with the
member of the group. The article describes the results of the scientists’ work
fields and presents the preliminary conclusions drawn after using invisible to
human spectra of light in the anthropological portrait photography and in the
compilation of composite portraits.
