SHAMANIC HEALING AND CONTEMPORARY TRANSFORMATION OF SHAMANIC PRACTICES OF THE NENETS

The article presents personalized materials about modern Nenets shamans performing sacred rituals, as well as about persons using knowledge about shamanic practices and the texts of these practices in the art of healing. Biographical descriptions of shamans' descendants, who inherited the shamanic gift, are presented. A person who has chosen shamanism as a profession is presented - a novel phenomenon in the Nenets spiritual culture. Others use shamanic heritage alongside their main job. The author concludes that shamanic practices of the Nenets have sprouted in the recent decades, despite years of persecution, oblivion, and certain skepticism among local communities caused by modern shamans not passing through the school of shamanic mentoring.
