Abstract

The reader is invited for a discussion on a book by the famous Dutch philosopher and anthropologist Annemarie Mol, The Logic of Care: Health and the Problem of Patient Choice (2008), about the care of diabetic patients. The discussion participants represent various areas of health and medicine studies. One of them is a member of the diabetic patients' community, which allowed us to touch upon practical, as well as theoretical aspects of care. In the course of the talk, multiple questions were raised in regards to A. Mol's academic approach, its conceptual basis in the first place - elicitation of the logic of care, as contrasted to the logic of choice, as well as the method of receiving pure or distilled care, which the author suggests seeing as a universal model of care. The participants also spoke about how applicable Mol's key discriminations are in the studies of other illnesses or medical branches.
