Abstract

This is a review of the book Governing Habits: Treating Alcoholism in the Post-Soviet Clinic by Eugene Raikhel, published in 2016. It includes the results of a study conducted in the clinics of St. Petersburg in the 2000s. The author extensively analyzes the practices used in narcological institutions, and their significance for doctors and patients. The book also familiarizes the reader with the history of Soviet and post-Soviet narcology.
